Upgrade Policy on ProductCart Add-ons & Mods
Early Impact is constantly striving to improve and enhance their ProductCart shopping cart system. We're all "thumbs up!" on that.
However, this means that the latest and greatest version of ProductCart at any given point in time could have significant revisions to core ProductCart functionality that is related to one of our mods or add-on.
Service Pack releases are not typically an issue, but version releases, such as 3.51 to 4.0 and 4.0 to 4.1 will typically affect some of our add-ons.
We make a distinction between mods and add-ons: mods are just code "tweaks" and are almost never affected. Add-ons require updates to the database and control panel and typically have more exposure to changes in the ProdcutCart code.
Time Window
We do our darndest to start checking our most suspect add-ons based on the list of changes in a version release as immediately as possible so that we can assure that our add-on users wil be able to continue to enjoy the benefits of the enhancements we've provided. However, it still may take several weeks or more to work through them all.
Please feel free to "nag" us through our support portal if you want us to jump right on some WMS add-on and test it against the latest ProductCart version.
Costs
Costs may be associated with updates to add-ons we've released on prior versions of ProductCart.
Frankly, the changes to the ProductCart code can sometimes significantly change the code our add-on interacts with. Other times, our add-on is sufficiently "stand-alone" that little if any adjustments are needed.
In the latter scenario, we'll happily re-supply a new archive with current insructions by request through our support portal.
In the event that the code changes are significant, we will need to charge an upgrade charge for the new code. Charges will never exceed 50% of the original base charge for the add-on (that is, if you happened to have purchased it while we had it on sale, the sale cost is not the base charge). The actual charge for upgraded versions will be directly dependent on how involved the changes are to apply the add-on in question to the latest ProductCart build. The less complex, the less the upgrade charge.
In this scenario, we will supply an "Order Upgrade to vX.X" option on the page on which we sell the add-on in question.
Honesty Assurance
To purchase an upgrade version of one of our add-ons, our system will check against your original order in our system. You must order from the same computer (we'll be checking against IP address), use the same email address as in your original order, and provide the same domain name as in your original order. If you no longer have the same IP address, email address and/or domain name, please submit a support ticket.
ProductCart is an excellent shopping cart application out of the box, but even its amazing feature list doesn't go far enough for some merchants.
